Catalytic Converters

Reducing Your Carbon Footprint

The catalytic converter on your vehicle plays a vital role in keeping its emissions down. It makes the air pollutants produced by the internal combustion engine less harmful.

There are several ways to determine if something is wrong with your vehicle’s catalytic converter. First, if the “check engine” light goes on, there is a code for an inefficient catalytic converter. There may also be an unusual smell coming from the exhaust pipe if there’s an issue with the catalytic converter. Engine performance may also be compromised, so if your vehicle seems sluggish when accelerating, a catalytic converter check may be in order. A rattling noise coming from underneath your vehicle can also be a warning sign.

Professional Diagnosis and Repairs

Nearly all catalytic converter failures have to do with engine issues. An engine not performing as it should can dump excess amounts of raw fuel through the exhaust system, which eventually ruins the catalytic converter. Also, before replacing the catalytic converter, the cause of the old one’s failure must be determined. Failure do to this can ruin the new one, and the warranty may not cover the damage.

Don’t take a chance! Leave your catalytic converter diagnosis and replacement to the professionals at Atlas Car Care & Tire Center. If your vehicle sounds noisier than usual, or if the “check engine” light has turned on, call us to make an appointment.

Mufflers

Lifetime Mufflers

Get service for your existing muffler or have a new one installed. You can even choose custom exhaust systems and high-performance mufflers – as always, warranty work for our services.

At Atlas Car Care & Tire Center, we offer complete exhaust and muffler services. We can work with high-performance mufflers, as well as custom exhaust systems, pipes, and other exhaust systems components.

Muffler Warning Signs

The most obvious warning sign is an increase in the loudness of your vehicle’s exhaust system. You may get dirty looks from neighbors and ticketed by police officers. Simply put, if you think your vehicle sounds louder than usual, make an appointment with us.

A sudden, otherwise unexplained decrease in gas mileage can signal a problem with your muffler or exhaust system, among other things.

Finally, if you smell exhaust fumes while inside your vehicle with the windows closed, have it towed to our shop immediately. The muffler is supposed to funnel the exhaust away from the vehicle, as it contains carbon monoxide, which can be deadly.

Dual Exhaust

It’s Not Strictly a “Looks” Thing

Dual exhaust can give your vehicle an extra boost of power because there are now two outlets for the exhaust instead of just one. Dual exhaust gets the leftover air out of the engine’s cylinders more quickly, allowing the next exchange to start sooner. Dual exhausts can also increase a vehicle’s fuel efficiency.

What Type of Engines Can Benefit from Dual Exhaust?

If you drive a vehicle with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, or one with a V-6 or larger, it can benefit from a dual exhaust system. With turbocharged engines, dual exhaust systems can see a big difference in the amount of air and fuel that goes into the engine from the turbocharge. Similarly, dual exhaust systems can increase horsepower in vehicles with a V-6 engine or larger.
